Synopses: love i awethu further — When the tree falls outside Mistress’s house, Callie and Beneatha know it is time to heed their late mother’s visions. In this adaptation of Julius Caesar, these two sisters plan a revolt in the Antebellum South. From the fields and from the house come more women as the revolution spreads like wildfire, as all imagine a world where they are free to live and love in full.

Mama, I Wish I Were Silver — On a cold January day in 2020, Sofia and Ariel, two estranged Filipina American half-sisters, reunite in Virginia to clean out the photographs, papers, and letters of their recently deceased mother. When they find a cassette tape seemingly recorded during martial law in the Philippines, when Ariel was born, they realize that what their mother left behind has a life of its own.

Plays: love i awethu further can be found via the playwright here. Mama, I Wish I Were Silver can be found on NPX here. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

Discussion format: Actors will be reading scenes from the play and/or we will listen to select songs to kick off our discussion. This will provide a jumping off point as well as some context for people who are unable to read it ahead of time. The Thumbprint Team will be facilitating an open conversation where we hope that people will feel confident to bring their thoughts and experiences to the discussion. Additional materials will be provided to you in our Welcome Packet to dig in further to the study of this work, if you so choose to use them.
You do not need to have read the material beforehand to participate.
